  The Organization

North East Rehabilitation Training and Research Association ( NERTRA) is a non-governmental organization based in Batticoloa.

  History
NERTRA is a young NGO started by a group of social workers in 1997 and was registered in 1999 as a social service organisation.

NERTRA works in 5 remote villages (approx. 30-40 km from Batticoloa). These villages are in the LTTE control area and the access is most difficult. They mobilize micro-credit groups (106 groups so far-500+ people) and help with drinking well, toilets, agricultural training and home gardening, income generation and self-employment. They also work with youth in leadership training, seeds management, nature farming. UNDP supported in promoting nature farming and the project was completed successfully.
