  The Organization  
     
  Lanka Jathika Sarvodaya Shramadana Sangamaya is an organization founded in 1958 as a national NGO and incorporated under a Parliamentary Act in 1972. It is one of the prominent and largest social services organizations of the country.  
     
  Sarvodaya Movement is a unique organization dedicated to the sustainable empowerment of people through self-help and collective support, to non-violence and peace.  
  Established in 1980, The Open University of Sri Lanka (OUSL) is the only recognised University in Sri Lanka where students are able to pursue further education through distance learning techniques.  
     
  Current experiences  
  Sarvodaya is working towards alleviating rural poverty through the active participation and engagement of the villagers themselves. It has been engaged in vocational training activities for a long time and as a WUSC partner it has conducted courses in following areas.  
     
  Target group  
  Under the ODW programme Sarvodaya works with youths between 13-20, who have lost education opportunities due to war and poverty. Sarvodaya is dedicated to keep the gender and ethic balance in all the activities under this programme.  
     
  Geographical coverage  
  Sarovodaya functions through 34 district centres in the island and covers over 16,000 villages. Its headquarters is located in Moratuwa.

   Role in the ODW Programme  
     
  Provides vocational training under the ODW programme. The overall goal is "Prosperous and peaceful life of the war affected youth in Eastern Province". The objective is to "Improve the skills of the trainees and to encourage their self employment activities."  
  Under the ODW programme courses are offered in following sectors in the three District Centres.

  4. Welding
  5. House wiring
   
¨ Batticoloa District Centre
  1. Aluminium fabrication
  2. Motor bicycle repairing

  1. Aluminium fabrication
  2. TV-Radio repairs
